RTO – a key component in achieving CO₂ neutrality at the largest site in Switzerland
At one of the largest players in the industry, the exhaust air from production processes has so far been cleaned of pollutants via combustion chambers. However, this represents a very energy-intensive form of exhaust air purification.
Eisenmann Environmental Technology is planning and delivering the proven Regenerative Thermal Oxidation (RTO) technology as a replacement here under challenging conditions by the end of 2026.

The overall system concept consists of a safety mixing section, RTO, ozonation for nitrogen oxide removal, quench, scrubber and piping system to the stack. The system is designed with two lines for production security and maintenance purposes.
The challenges include, among others:
- Indoor installation within the existing building stock
- Complex safety measures due to the explosive environment
- High-grade materials due to the corrosive exhaust air composition
