Towards Carbon Neutrality With RTO

At one of the largest players in the pharmaceutical industry, with a major site in Switzerland, process exhaust air has so far been treated in combustion chambers to remove pollutants. However, this method of air pollution control is highly energy-intensive. Under challenging conditions, Eisenmann Environmental Technology will design and deliver its proven regenerative thermal oxidation (RTO) system as a replacement by the end of 2026.

The overall system concept consists of a safety mixing section, RTO, ozonation for nitrogen oxide removal, quench, scrubber and piping system to the stack. The system is designed with two lines for production security and maintenance purposes.

The challenges include, among others:

  • Indoor installation within the existing building stock
  • Complex safety measures due to the explosive environment
  • High-grade materials due to the corrosive exhaust air composition
