Water treatment for compliance with the lowest discharge limits

A new sewage sludge incineration facility is being built in Munich. For the wastewater from the flue gas cleaning, Eisenmann Environmental Technology supplied the wastewater treatment system. A major challenge here is the reliable treatment of the wastewater to the required limits prior to discharge into the sewer system.

The system is designed with two lines, each consisting of a wastewater collection tank, batch treatment unit, sludge storage, chamber filter press, final filtration and 4-stage polishing via selective ion exchangers, as well as post-neutralisation with final pH monitoring.

The measures

The batch treatment is equipped with a sulphide precipitation stage, so that the values for heavy metals in the clear phase after precipitation are already very low.

Four selective ion exchangers ensure compliance with the discharge limits for:

Heavy metal, e.g. lead< 0.05 mg/l
Arsenic< 0.04 mg/l
Mercury< 0.001 mg/l
Dioxins/furans< 0.04 ng/l

The system will be installed in 2027.
